Department of Agricultural Engineering

The Department of Agricultural Engineering was created as an individual department by splitting the amalgamated department of ASEPAN (Agronomy, Soil Science, Agricultural Engineering, Plant Physiology and Animal Science) in the year 2016. The main objectives of the Department are teaching, research and extension activities in the field of Agricultural Engineering discipline such as Farm Machinery and Power, Food and Agricultural Process Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering and Renewable Energy Technology. The Department offers different courses viz. Farm Machinery and Power, Protected Cultivation and Postharvest Technology, Introductory Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Renewable Energy and Green Technology, Principles of Food Science and Nutrition, Rural Agricultural Work Experience and Agro-industrial Attachment and elective courses such as Food Processing & Food Safety Standards, and Agriculture Waste Management in undergraduate Agricultural Science. The Department also offers PhD degree programme in Agricultural Engineering disciplines. Presently, 8 students are pursuing Ph.D research and one student was awarded PhD degree. Major research areas are drying, modified/controlled atmosphere storage, irradiation, fruit processing, value addition, fish processing, hermetic storage, farm implements, precision agriculture application, climate change impact on forest biomass, runoff modelling, etc. The department has four sanctioned teaching posts in Agricultural Engineering discipline. The department also has a workshop. In addition, provide scientific basis for enhancing and sustaining productivity in the farming sectors with the modern and advanced agricultural technologies.
